Policy on Judges Licensing as of May 15, 1999

LICENSES:  There are three types of licenses:  General License (which included Bantam Duck), Bantam Chickens Only, and Bantam Duck Only.

APPLICATION:  Candidate must have been a individual member of the ABA in good standing for five consecutive years and be at least 21 years of age.

A non-refundable fee must be sent to the ABA Secretary.  Secretary will then forward the application to the applicant.  Applicant is to complete form and send to Chairman of Judges Licensing Committee..

FEES:  General License (which includes the Bantam Duck) - $225.00, Bantam Chickens only - $150.00, and Bantam Duck - $75.00.

STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM:  The two-year stewardship program includes stewarding or clerking at a minimum of eight different shows under eight different licensed ABA judges.  Each candidate  will send his  form back to the chairman.  The applicant will take his examination within one year of completion of stewardship program.  An extension of one year may be applied for by writing the Chairman of Judges Licensing Committee.  The committee will have the final decision in granting the extension.

EXAMINATIONS:  After successful completion of the stewardship program, the applicant will have one year to take the showroom practical examination and written examination under a licensed ABA judge who has been licensed for at least five years.  The examing judge will be appointed by Chairman of the Licensing Committee.  The examining judge will report his confidential findings when returning the written examination for grading and will be paid $30.00 for Bantam Chicken.

For the Bantam Duck License, the applicant must pass similar qualifications required for a General Bantam License or Bantam Chickens only, except the filing fee is $75.00 and the payment for examining judge is $20.00.

Passing grade for the showroom examination is 90% and for the written examination is 80%.  Should the applicant fail any of the examinations, he or she can take a second examination within 6-12 months, and refiling fee of $125.00 for the General License, $80.00 for Bantam Chickens Only, and $45.00 for Bantam Duck License. Examing Judge is paid to give exams as per above.

An applicant who has passed both the showroom and the written examinations will be issued a license number by the ABA Secretary.  Grades are not sent to the candidate.

MISCELLANEOUS:  Any licensed ABA judge in arrears  of annual dues for 90 days or more will have his or her license revoked.  To be re-instated, the judge must pay up the dues and a fine of $25.00.  If the ABA judge fails to renew before a year has elapsed, a new written exam based on the current BANTAM STANDARD and the fee for taking exam will be the same as those for retake,. with the examining judge paid $30.00 Bantam Chicken & $20.00 Bantam Duck.

Should a General Licensed APA judge wish a ABA judging license, all provisions listed earlier must be met except for the 2 year stewardship program.  The APA judge in question must be a member of the ABA for five consecutive years and  have been licensed for at least two years.

Any APA or ABA licensed judge wishing an ABA Bantam Duck License, may obtain one by paying regular fees and taking the written and showroom examination.  The stewardship program would be waived.  The APA judge must meet the 5 year ABA membership requirement and hold a APA license for 2 years.

Any Licensed Canadian judge wishing an ABA judging license, all provisions listed earlier must be met exept for the stewardship program.  The Licensed Canadian judge in question must be a member of the ABA for five consecutive years and have been licensed for at least two years.

All test given will be based on the 1997 edition of the Bantam Standard
